Hace precisamente dos años, cuando comenzamos La Escuela Pública La Ivan Illich, la primera clase propuesta fué una clase sobre Ivan Illich en Puerto Rico. Nos ha tomado dos años organizarla, pero este domingo nos reuniremos para discutir sus textos, su práctica y la experiencia de quienes lo conocieron en Puerto Rico. Hemos querido solapar esa generación que tuvo contacto directo con Ivan Illich como persona y con el pensamiento y práctica de Illich en Puerto Rico, con una generación que aunque no tuvo contacto directo, desarrolla proyectos (¡como este!) influenciados por los escritos e ideas de Illich.
El curso se desarolla alrededor del uso de materiales historicos y/o modernos para la manufactura de adhesivos, color y varnices con alta permanencia entre otras aplicaciones. La composicion y preservacion de estos materiales y tecnicas sera un foco primordial y una parte importante de este curso. En el curso se proveen ejemplos y amplia informacion de pigmentos inorganicos, organicos, synteticos, minerales y vegetales al igual que informacion acerca de pegas naturales a base de animales y vegetales, y pegas sinteticas como polymeros acrylicos.
This project is in part an exhibition on Vidéogazette and in part a look at paralell contemporary practices that employ technology and seek experimental, non-hierarchical approaches to creative and cultural production. The Philly Public School has been invited to launch a series of class proposals with accompanied posters (with the inclusion of other Public Schools) which will eventually culminate into a class or series of classes. A group will gather virtually on IRC during Tuesday evenings this month to generate material The Whole World is Watching. Deadline for this would be the first week in May. Musicians and all kinds of other artists have means and need to practice their work through daily exercises. But what does the actor have outside of rehearsals for a particular project? "Viewpoints" is the name of an improvisation technique/language for performers which was pioneered by the choreographer Mary Overlie and later extensively developed by the theatre director, Anne Bogart and her company, SITI. I would like to take a class that both uses and critically questions the literature and experiences of Viewpoints to explore it as a kind of "daily practice" -- at the level of a weekly class. I would like to explore/question it's basic assumptions and procedures, through testing it's simple exercises -- many of them movement based, but not limited to the actor's physical work -- gradually, diligently, patiently becoming more and more advanced, without, initially at least, any pressure of a goal to result in performance for an audience.

It is well known that the adolescent period is a time of dramatic changes in physique, behavior, and creativity. The last decade has seen an impressive accumulation about the structure and function of the adolescent brain. One cardinal feature involves elevated capacity for synaptic plasticity, which involves rapid changes in the strength, function, and architecture of synaptic contacts that is largely mediated by a neuro-chemical known as glutamate. However, these impressive changes during adolescent brain development may also confer vulnerability to certain types of disruptive behaviors, including increased risk taking and drug abuse. In this class, we will address basic neuro-biological changes that occur during adolescence and discuss their relationship to the emergence of creative power and disruptive behaviors (e.g., alcoholism). We will also attempt to debunk common myths and misconceptions about adolescent brain development and function.
